Futuroscope, the renowned technology-driven theme park near Poitiers, France, has opened two new attractions: La Serre des Mondes and Mission Bermudes, both featuring PROLIGHTS lighting solutions supplied by ESL. The two projects addressed very different challenges: immersive, interactive lighting on one side, and an architectural system designed to enhance the structures and guide visitors through the park's outdoor spaces on the other.
La Serre des Mondes is an immersive attraction combining scripted storytelling, sensory interactions and free exploration. Spread across four rooms, the experience draws visitors into the world of a botanist whose extraordinary greenhouse has been thrown into crisis by an unexpected event. The journey culminates in Le Spécimen, the attraction's centrepiece room, where a monumental tree with luminous roots dominates the centre of a circle of drums. The LumiPar 12IP fixtures are embedded directly within the drums, serving a role that is both scenic and functional.
The narrative mechanism is built around "phonosynthesis": to restore the greenhouse's balance, visitors must respond to the tree's light pulses by striking the drums in rhythm. The LumiPar 12IP units are the conduit for this exchange, cueing participant responses, tracking the escalating rhythm, and ultimately signalling the resolution of the mission through the light animations returning to life across the bark.
Mission Bermudes, Futuroscope's flagship attraction and winner of the Best Attraction and Innovation award at the 2025 IAAPA Expo, takes visitors aboard Rocking Boats, hybrid vessels combining the dynamics of a roller coaster with those of a water ride, on a fictional rescue mission at the heart of the Bermuda Triangle, set within an environment of large-scale physical scenography, mist, explosions and rapids.
Along the outdoor pathway, the ArcPod 15Q fixtures mark the visitor journey through the attraction. At the building exit, the ArcPod 48Q fixtures, mounted beneath the rails, are woven into the attraction itself: the progressive light sequence they generate builds ahead of each arriving Rocking Boat, becoming a visual cue locked to the rhythm of the ride. In the bar area, the ArcSpot XSFC fixtures complete the installation with precise accent lighting.
The two installations at Futuroscope reflect PROLIGHTS' ability to meet very different project briefs, from the robustness demanded by high-traffic outdoor environments to the precision required when lighting becomes an active part of the narrative.
